ABOUT US

HISTORY
Due to the growing number of Catholics in the City of Covington, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Augustus Maria Toebbe (2nd Bishop of Covington), established a new parish (the fifth in the city) in 1870, in the Peaselburg Neighborhood, and placed it under the patronage of his name saint – Augustine. The first church building was a dual-purpose building, encompassing both the church and the school. This complex served the parish well for 40 years. Father Paul Abeln (fifth pastor) strived to raise funds to build a new church. Unfortunately, he died before this vision could be realized. Father William Kathman succeeded Father Abeln, and building upon his predecessor’s enthusiasm, was able to raise enough money to purchase a new plot of land on 19th Street. The new church would be completed in December of 1914.
The Catholic Church
The mission of the Catholic Church is that which was given to Her by Jesus Christ before His Ascension into heaven:
"God therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the close of the age."
- Matthew 28:19-20
